Itinerary
Day 01: Lima
Arrival to Lima and transfer to the hotel.
Day o2: Lima / Cajamarca City – Cumbemayo – Cajamarca
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Cajamarca. Arrival and transfer to your hotel.
In the morning we will have a city tour in our prívate transportation to see ,among other atractions, the Cathedral, which is an impressive monument with a volcanic rock facade, the Main square, the Church of San Francisco, the Monumental Complex Bethlehem, Colonial Hospitals, the Rescue Room, that was filled by the Inca Atahualpa twice his size with pieces of silver and once with pieces of gold to obtain his freedom from the Spanish conquerors. We will also visit Santa Apolonia hill, natural viewpoint from where the entire city and the valley can be observed and the Inca´s chair.
At noon lunch and in the afternoon an excursion to Cumbemayo. On the way we will visit Bellavista, Layzon, the Forestal park, and, once in Cumbemayo, the Stone forest, the Sanctuary, the Aqueduct and the Sacrifice altar.
Return to the city, and night at the hotel..
Day 03: Porcon Farm – Celendin
Breakfast. During the day you can participate in the daily activities of the farm such as planting, milking by hand, and others. The purpose of this activity is to make you feel and experience the rutinary chores of local peasants in order to understand their life style, customs and traditions.
In the afternoon, departure towards Celendin, arrival and noght at the hotel.
Day 04: Celendín – Balsas – Leimebamba – Tingo
We leave Celendin and head for Leimebamba in our prívate transportation. On the way we will climb to the top of the Jelik viewpoint from where the valley landscape and the city can be oberved. We will see giant cactuses, some of them 10 meters high and,on our arrival to the village of Balsas,we will witness a real caprice of nature performed by the Marañon river as it makes its way through a very deep canyon.
We will continue our ascent until crossing the famous cordillera Calla-Calla which is located 4600 meters amsl. On our route we will come accross the impresive fauna and flora which are typical in the región and comprise different types of orchids, ferns,arbóreas and bromelaceas.
Arrival to the Leimebamba town, where we’ll visit the Malqui Museum with more than 220 Mommies, ceramics, dress and other manifestations of the Chachapoyas Culture, We’ll continue by the right margin of the Utcubamba River to arrive at the Tingo town. Transfer to the chosen lodge,dinner and night stay.
Day 05: Tingo – Fortaleza de Kuelap – Chachapoyas
We will leave in automobile to Malca Pampas, a two hour drive. From this place we will take a 15 minutes walk up to the Kuelap Fortress where we will remain for approximately 4 Hours. We will be able to enjoy this impressive tourist attraction located 9,843 feet above sea level (3,000 masl). It consists of two enormous superposed platforms, over which the citadel stands protected by massive defensive walls. The structure of the main building is circular and for security purposes has only one access corridor, sufficiently narrow to allow only one person at a time to enter. Inside there are several divisions, hundreds of round stone houses decorated with zigzag patterns, small up to 1,969 feet (600 m) long and 66 feet (20m) high. Towers indicate how well protected the compound was. It comprised more than 400 buildings, many of them with decorated walls and cornices or protruding friezes.
The view from the towers is incredibly beautiful.
Box Lunch
At the appropiate time return to Tingo. Then we will visit the Religious zone of Macro.
Transfer to Chachapoyas and night stay.
Day 06: Chachapoyas – Abra Patricia
Departure from Chachapoyas in our prívate transportation heading for Abra Patricia at 2300 amsl. Along the way we will be able to watch different unique bird species and once we reach our destination we will take a well deserved rest at a bungalow.
Day 07: Abra Patricia
At dawn we will start our birdwatching activities in the sorroundings of the lodge where mixed flocks are common. It is also likely to see the Yellow-tailed Woolly monkey and other mammals. In the evening and at night birds can be observed within the reserve and in the different pathways it is very likely to hear the Long Whiskered Owlet. Dinner and night stay.
Day 08: Pomacochas – Moyabamba
Very early in the morning we will head for the Pomacochas lagoon and then for the CIB of Huembo to observe the spectacular spatulatail hummingbird among other species. We will continue watching birds along the route.
Transfer to Moyobamba.
Day 09: Moyabamba – Tarapoto – Lima
Start of a prívate trip in the Capital of the Orchids in Peru with more tan 2,800 varities. We will visit the nursery of Wakanki wich has a great diversity of orchids such as Anguloa,Brassia, Cataseum, Cattleya, Bollea, Coryanthes, Lycaste, Masdevallia and many others. The most representative is the Cattleya, locally referred to as «Golondrina» (swallow).
Transfert to the airport in Tarapoto for your flight back to Lima.
